Hospitals care for victims of Virginia Beach shooting
Several Sentara hospitals cared for victims from a mass shooting Friday at the Virginia Beach (Va.) Municipal Center, four of whom were still being treated on Saturday, the Norfolk, Va.-based health system reported. “What we do in health care is so much more than just doing a job,” said Sentara President and CEO Howard Kern. “It takes a special type of person and we are thankful for our team members' commitment and strength. We stand with the City of Virginia Beach.” Two Sentara staff members lost loved ones in the shooting, he said. Eleven government workers and a contractor were killed in the shooting, according to news reports.
